And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds,24 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.25.     (Hebrews 10:24-25)

Last month was all about love and how we can serve each other. This month let’s talk about our community and what it means to be part of this Emmaus Community. How do we grow?

Purpose of the Walk to Emmaus

Have you ever wondered about the purpose of the Walk to Emmaus?

“The objective of Emmaus is to inspire, challenge, and equip the local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, communities and places of work. Emmaus lifts up a way for our grace filled lives to be lived and shared with others.”

This is right from the Walk to Emmaus Upper Room site! When we take the Walk to Emmaus the goal is the community and what we can do to share this wonderful gift of Grace with others. There are many that have started their spiritual journey being called into pastoral service after their Walk to Emmaus.   Emmaus is a great way to share God’s love and to make a change in our community. Sometimes that may be one little thing at a time. As it says in the Changing Our World talk, it might need to start with you. Think about how you can make a difference.

Grow and share with others

As the country starts to open, it’s time for a call to action for our Greater Indianapolis Area Emmaus Community. It’s time for us to share the Walk to Emmaus with our community. It’s been a rough year full of many challenges. The challenge to our community is how do we grow? As the Bible verse from Hebrews 10 above states, we are stronger together.  To be strong we need to come together. To do this we need to be involved. There was a time when this community had multiple men’s’ and women’s’ walks a year. There were waiting lists to be on an Emmaus Walk. Wouldn’t it be great to get back to that time?  The time is near, and the harvest is plenty. Look around you. Who do you see that would benefit from a Walk to Emmaus? Here is a link to a Save the Date Card for the next GIA Emmaus Walks in the Fall.  Pray on who God is calling you to sponsor.

What are other ways we can grow? Feel free to post ideas on the Greater Indianapolis Emmaus Facebook site where this blog is posted or send them via email. The Board would love suggestions.

Reconnect

Has it been a while since you connected with your Emmaus brothers and sisters? Maybe now is a good time to call them and reconnect?  So far, we have had some great online gatherings, but won’t it be great to be back in person?  On April 17th, we will have an in-person gathering!!  It will be at 7pm. The Emmaus Gathering will be at New Creation Christian Fellowship Church at 1285 North State Road 135, Greenwood, IN 46142 at the corner of IN-135 and County Line Road in the strip on the Southeast corner.    We will wear masks and social distance. If it’s too soon for you to join in person, we will continue to hold gatherings online on Facebook Live on the Indianapolis Emmaus FB Site. Consider joining the gathering to see your Emmaus friends.

When was the last time you were called to work a walk? Are you interested in working? Go to IndyEmmaus.org and fill out a team application.

How about getting involved and helping get the Chrysalis Community started back up? There is a group planning the next flights now. The flights will be in 2022, but there is going to be lots of prep work as the program has been re-written and will need to be rolled out. Watch for more information on the updates to Chrysalis in a blog in May.

Do you feel God calling you to help Emmaus grow?  What are you going to do about it?

DeColores!
